Uttar Pradesh: 200 turtles seized, one arrested

A Special Task Force (STF) squad in Hardoi caught a smuggler and retrieved 200 rare turtles from the Kachauna police station area.

Qamar, a resident of the Kannauj district, was arrested in Ludhiana. He was found with a cell phone and around Rs 14,000 in his hands. According to the Additional Superintendent of Police, STF, Satyasen, the police were informed that the accused will go to Ludhiana through Balamau railway station in Hardoi to transport the turtles. The team set up a trap and arrested the culprit.

"Qamar confessed to his crime and stated that he had been involved in the unlawful business for quite some time. The turtles were kidnapped from a woman named Rehana in Hardoi's Mallawaan neighbourhood, according to the ASP.

Officials stated the turtles will be handed up to the forest department. The STF team is also looking for the person in Punjab who was supposed to give over the smuggled consignment of endangered turtles.
