Violence breaks out at K'taka Med College over misuse of social media post

RAICHUR: Violence broke out between paramedical students at the Medical College, located in the outskirts of the Karnataka city of Raichur, on Tuesday, September 20.

Police sources swaid that the incident occurred as a result of the students misusing a social media post. Police said, the Navodaya Medical College students who are located on the outskirts of Raichur engaged in violence. Two medical students were injured in the violence and iron roads were used as weapons by the attackers. One of the children needed 12 stitches after suffering a significant head injury. Another student sustained forehead wounds.

Shankar and Shambhulinga were the students who suffered injuries. The Navodaya Hospital was providing medical attention to the injured. A BSc Nursing student named Rohith has been identified as the assailant.

The police officials said, Rohith's mobile status was screenshotted by Shankar and Shambhulinga. To honour his mother's birthday, Rohith had posted a picture of her on his status.

According to reports, Shankar and Shambhulinga altered the image, added love symbols, and spread it around the school. This infuriated Rohith and his buddies, who then attacked the pair and started a gang war.

Sources said, many people were injured in the incident and the violence took place in front of the lecturers. Police from Netajinagar arrived quickly and started looking into the incident.
