In an effort to upgrade health, education, sanitation, and social infrastructure in 50 villages in Tamil Nadu a virtual marathon titled Tamil Marathon 2021 will be held between January 10 and 24. Organised by Ingenious 6, this virtual marathon is a fundraising event. Hemanth R, organiser of the event, said, "Our aim is to give Tamils all over the world and those who are connected with Tamil culture, tradition, and arts, an unparalleled experience of running together virtually. We also wanted to demonstrate our solidarity with rural Tamil Nadu that needs urgent attention to upgrade and restore its infrastructure, and thus the quality of standards of living, post cyclones and Covid-19 lockdown restrictions. Money collected from the registration fees will be used for this and also for creating a virtual platform that will host the performances of Tamil folk arts and dance forms like mayilattam, kavadiattam, kummi, bommalattam, villu paattu, kolattam, karagam, oyilattam, and therukoothu, that need people?s continued patronage to thrive".
