Weekend Market: Sensex, Nifty Gain For Second Straight Session

The Indian share benchmarks rose for the second consecutive session on the weekend Friday led by gains in ITC, ICICI Bank, State Bank of India, Axis Bank and HCL Technologies.

the benchmarks traded in a narrow band most part of the day, but buying in banking stocks in late morning deals helped Sensex and Nifty break the rangebound trade. on the other hand, weakness in index heavyweight Reliance Industries ahead of June quarter earnings capped the upside for the benchmarks.

ICICI Bank was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, followed by ITC, SBI, HCL Tech, Axis Bank, Bajaj Finserv and Tech Mahindra. On the other hand, L&T, Hindustan Unilever, Reliance Industries and NTPC were among the losers.

The BSE Sensex gained 139 points to close at 52,975.80 and the NSE Nifty 50 index advanced 32 points to settle at 15,856. Nine of 11 sector gauges compiled by the NSE ended higher led by the Nifty Realty index's over 1 percent gain. Nifty Bank, PSU Bank, Financial Services, Private Bank and FMCG shares also witnessed buying.
