Bangalore: The Karnataka High Court today rejected an appeal by e-commerce companies Amazon and Flipkart challenging an order of a single bench of the High Court that allowed the Competition Commission of India (CCI) to conduct an initial inquiry into their alleged anti-competitive practice.
The division bench of the Karnataka High Court in its judgment said that in the opinion of this court, the investigation at this stage cannot be suppressed in any way. If appellants are not involved in violation of any provision of the 2002 Act, they should not be ashamed to face scrutiny by CCI. The Amazon and Walmart-owned Flipkart company had filed an appeal before a division bench of the Karnataka High Court against the CCI's order to resume the probe.
The Competition Commission of India had directed an inquiry against the two giants of e-commerce companies for alleged violation of the provisions of competition laws. Amazon and Flipkart had filed separate petitions before the division bench of the high court in the case. The petition filed by Flipkart urged to circumvent the June 11 court order.
