West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Friday urged the youth to protect the human rights of people adding that violence is "antithetical" to democracy. On the very day of Independence day, Dhankhar said the country is on a constant trajectory of growth and has gained a position of honour in the world, making every citizen proud of being an Indian. We must take oath on this day to uphold human rights. Any attack on human rights brings disgrace to humanity and stigmatizes the spirit of the Constitution," the governor said. The Governor today said, "Having seen the trauma of post-poll violence in the state of West Bengal, the extent of it, the spread of the horrors of it, I can tell you violence is antithetical to democracy," he said during the inauguration ceremony of 'Swatantryaveer Savarkar Smruti Abhinav Bharat Vyaspeeth', a four-day lecture series organized by Navalmal Firodia Law College, Pune. In his appeal to the youth, he said, "I call upon the youth to rise to the occasion to ensure we get rid of the violence in our society. The youth have to play on the front foot for this and they are imminently suited to do that."
