Gujrat govt cancels COVID vaccination on August 22 for Raksha Bandhan

The government of Gujrat on Friday announced that the ongoing COVID-19 vaccination drive will be put on hold on Raksha Bandhan day that is on August 22. In a statement, Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel said the decision to take a day's break on Sunday (August 22) was taken so that women health workers involved in the vaccination drive can celebrate Raksha Bandhan with their families.

Raksha Bandhan, celebrates the auspicious brother-sister relationship. This year it falls on August 22. On this day, every sister ties a thread on the wrist of her brother as a symbol of her unconditional faith in him and of her prayers for his long life. In return, the brother promises to keep her happy always and protect her from all troubles throughout his life. The festival celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters.

Gujarat on last recorded 19 fresh cases of Covid, which took its tally of infections to 8,25,255, of which 10,078 people have died of the infection so far. As on August 29, more than 4.19 crore persons in Gujarat have been given COVID-19 vaccines by the government.
