West Bengal imposes 7-day isolation period, RT-PCR testing go on

West Bengal: People travelling to West Bengal from countries infected by the new COVID-19 Omicron variant would be compelled to stay in isolation for seven days, according to a top official with the state government.

As the threat of Omicron variant looms around the globe, travellers flying in from other regions of the country will be required to provide reports of RT-PCR tests. After a meeting with chief secretary H K Dwivedi and Airport Authorities officers earlier in the day, the official added that a directive was also given to keep a close eye on flyers from Bangladesh and Singapore.

"At the airport, intense vigilance will be kept. All passengers will be required to present negative RTPCR test results. We shall follow the union home department's protocol if somebody tests positive for Omicorn," he added.

Travelers must carry reports of their RTPCR tests completed at least 72 hours before boarding the flight, according to the procedure, and those from countries impacted by Omicron must spend seven days in isolation, according to the official.
