When Rakesh Roshan was shot By Underworld, Hrithik Roshan talked about it

There was a time when the underworld and Bollywood has love and hate relationship. At that time in 1997 killing of music mogul Gulshan Kumar was still fresh in public memory, actor and filmmaker Rakesh Roshan was confronted by two sharpshooters in full public view and shot at twice on January 21, 2000. The filmmaker was quick to recover. He got into his car and his driver Aatish sped him to the Santacruz police station

Rakesh Roshan had just made 'Kaho Naa ... Pyaar Hai ', which turned out to be superhit and launched the career of his son, Hrithik Rioshan. Hrithik once said in a interview speaking about the incident, "My father was in debt because we had borrowed a lot of money to make the film. The film struck big time -- it was the biggest hit in the past five-six years."

At Filmfare 2021, recalling the incident, Hrithik Roshan said, "As you all know, in the past few weeks my family has been through a lot. We have witnessed joy, happiness, success, fear, sadness over the last few days. My father who believes in doing good work was recently attacked by unknown assailants."

Hrithik further added, “On that day, I just couldn't help but feel, I was losing faith in hard work and goodness in the world. Basically, nothing made sense and I wanted to quit even before things began for me. But something changed all that. Something changed what I thought. On that day in the hospital when you came and I saw your faces and in your your own special way you made me feel that I was not alone, that I'll never be alone."
