Who was Altaf after all? Whose death created political ruckus

Lucknow: In Uttar Pradesh, political turmoil has erupted over the alleged death of a youth in police custody in Kasganj district. The deceased has been identified as Altaf, who was 21 years old. Altaf was called to the police station by the police to investigate the kidnapping of a minor girl. The incident took place on 9th November 2021. Altaf is accused of kidnapping a minor Hindu girl. Meanwhile, the kidnapped girl is yet to be traced.

 

On the other hand, the Kasganj Superintendent of Police has issued a statement on the incident and explained how the incident took place. He told that Altaf had gone to the toilet of jail and there tried to commit suicide by using a strip in his jacket from the water tap. He said Altaf had gone to the jail toilet and tried snare himself with a tap spout in his jacket. Police rushed Altaf to a hospital where he died. Inspector Virendra Singh Indaulia, Sub Inspector Chandresh Gautam, Sub Inspector Vikas Kumar, Head Constable Ghanendra Singh and Constable Saurabh Solanki have been suspended for negligence in Altaf's death. Altaf was a resident of Ahrauli village in Kasganj.

 

A letter has surfaced after his death claiming that his father Chand Mian has a thumb impression. The letter says that Altaf has committed suicide due to depression. In the letter, the father of the deceased has reportedly claimed that he has no complaint with the police and does not want any further action in this matter. Sagir's name is written as the writer of the letter, while the thumb impression on it is said to be that of the deceased's father Chand Mian. A video of Altaf's father Chand Mian is also going viral on social media. In that video, he described himself as completely satisfied with the police action. In the video, he says that the police's behaviour towards him was correct. Chand Mian also says that he made a statement in the media against the policemen in anger. He says the police got his son treated but he could not survive.

 

However, the father of the deceased Altaf reversed his statement. He described his earlier statement as due to poor mental conditions. At the same time, he described himself as illiterate and said that he was put on the letter when people asked him to put his thumb on it. In this new video, he has asked for justice, calling himself dissatisfied with the police action. A statement from ADG Meerut on the incident has also surfaced. According to ADG, the deceased Altaf also tried to hang himself in the police station. He also recommended a judicial inquiry into the incident. According to police, Altaf was alive for 15 minutes at the local hospital. Altaf has also been cremated in Islamic rituals. According to Altaf's post mortem report, no marks of assault have been found on his body.

 

Altaf was accused of kidnapping a minor Hindu girl. The FIR of which was registered at Kotwali Nagar Kasganj. According to FIR, on November 8, 2021, Altaf along with his friend lured a 16-year-old minor girl to Delhi, the girl is yet to be traced. The charge also said that the girl had also taken an educational certificate with her. Altaf reportedly used to paint and install tiles in the houses. Altaf had also gone to the house from where the girl disappeared. According to the report, some obscene videos were also found on Altaf's mobile. Based on the same video, his surmise swelled and he was taken into custody.
