Shimla: The results of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections are handing over power to Congress. In the 68-member Assembly, the Congress is leading in 37 seats. At the same time, the ruling BJP is having 28 seats. Three independent candidates have also got a chance here. However, Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has not even been able to open its account. However, with the huge possibilities of Congress forming the government, the fight has started among the leaders for the CM's chair. State Congress chief Pratibha Singh, former state president Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Mukesh Agnihotri, veteran leader Sudhir Sharma and Vikramaditya Singh, son of former CM Virbhadra Singh, are in the race for the CM post. But, Pratibha Singh is said to be at the forefront of the rest. If Congress makes her CM, Pratibha Singh will be the first woman chief minister of the state. Pratibha Singh is the wife of former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and is currently a Lok Sabha MP from Mandi. Virbhadra Singh had a lot of dominance over the state Congress since he became CM in 1983. Whenever the party formed the government, Virbhadra became the CM. This is the first election since 1983 when Congress contested without Virbhadra Singh after his death. Former Himachal Congress president Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu is also in the race for the post of CM. Sukhu has contested from Naudan's seat. He is also the head of the Himachal Pradesh Congress Campaign Committee. Mukesh Agnihotri is also endeavoring to become CM, he is a four-time MLA. Prior to 2017, he had also held important portfolios in the Virbhadra Singh-led government. At the same time, another contender for the post of CM, Vikramaditya Singh, is the son of Mandi MP Pratibha Singh. He has been elected for the second consecutive time from Shimla Rural. After the death of Virbhadra Singh, Vikramaditya was declared the new king of Rampur Bushehr state. However, political pundits say that since Vikramaditya is very young, he is not a contender for the chief minister's post.
