Why AAP Candidate Amar Singh Joined Congress Ahead of Assembly Polls in Haryana

In a major political shift, Amar Singh, the Aam Aadmi Party candidate from Haryana's Nilokheri Assembly constituency, joined the Congress party on Wednesday. His decision was announced during a gathering with Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa.

Bajwa expressed his gratitude to Singh and his supporters for their support, highlighting the importance of unity against the BJP. He remarked, "The BJP will get a huge benefit if the votes get divided in Haryana. I welcome Amar Singh into the Congress party and appreciate his decision to withdraw his candidacy."

With voting approaching on October 5, leaders from major parties, including the BJP, Congress, JJP, INLD, AAP, and BSP, are intensifying their campaigns to secure votes. The Nuh constituency has gained attention following significant unrest during riots in July and August 2023. The Congress candidate for Nuh is Aftab Ahmed, who previously won this seat in the 2019 Haryana Assembly elections. The BJP has fielded Sanjay Singh, who previously contested and won the Sohna seat.

On October 2, Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar stated that the BJP aims to form a clear government and achieve a historic third term in Haryana. "The BJP will be creating a record, as no other party has achieved a third consecutive term in Haryana. Congress has only managed two terms and could not secure a third," Khattar noted.

Voting for all 90 Assembly constituencies in Haryana is scheduled for October 5, from 7 AM to 6 PM, with vote counting set for October 8. In the 2019 Assembly elections, the BJP won 40 of the 90 seats, forming a coalition government with the JJP, which secured 10 seats, while Congress won 31 seats.
