Horses to save world from on-going pandemic, ICMR get approval for antisera trial

New Delhi: The Drug Controller General of the country has given permission to the Indian Council of Medical Research to trial 'antisera' for possible treatment of the COVID-19 pandemic. ICMR officials said that "Antisera has been developed by injecting inactive Sars-Cov-2 (virus) into horses".

ICMR Director General Balaram Bhargava gave this information in a press conference on Tuesday. He told, "Antisera's development ICMR has launched a Hyderabad-based pharmaceutical company Biological Ltd. We got approval to do a clinical trial of it". ICMR had earlier said in a statement, "Plasma from patients who have recovered from fighting corona can also meet this goal, but the profile of the antibody varies from one patient to another. This makes the corona unreliable for the management of infected patients".

Antisera is a type of blood serum that has a high amount of antibodies that can fight against a particular germ. It is given to the person through injection to immediately increase the immunity to fight any particular infection. Earlier, the use of antisera was used in the treatment of many types of viral, bacterial infections, rabies, hepatitis B, vaccinia virus, tetanus, botulism, and diarrhea. The same is to see how effective this technology proves to be.
