A mountainous valley swept down by a violent storm in southern France where some believed to have washed up on Italy's Mediterranean shore according to officials. Whereas in the village of Saint-Dalmas-de-Tende, surging floodwaters washed away dozens of graves and family tombs which created a serious dilemma for the citizens. The raging river swallowed up much of the cemetery. A headstone stands atop a muddy bank that now cleaves its way through the graveyard and some vaults lie broken where the waters of the Roya River have diminished.

A local resident Chantal Bocchin said in grief that "You cannot rebuild a cemetery, "It's not worth rebuilding when there's no one left.". On Friday, in less than 24 hours more than half a meter (1.6 feet) of rain fell over the rugged Franco-Italian border area. Rivers swelling and sending flash floods to tumble through the region's narrow gorges. All the four bridges in Saint-Dalmas-de-Tende village linking the two halves of the village collapsed into the churning water. Houses were swept off from their foundations and power lines are cut down due to flood where Road and Rail lines are all terminated and the only way to visit or rescue is by helicopters.

Mayor Jean-Pierre Vassallo states the storm as 'apocalyptic'. Whereas French officials said they were in an advanced state of decay. On Sunday Italian authorities said they had discovered four bodies that washed ashore between the towns of Ventimiglia and Santo Stefano al Mare, close to the border with France. Another was found slightly inland which is close to a river
