Will Smith is set to star in a gripping crime thriller called 'Sugar Bandits'. The movie, based on Chuck Hogan's book 'Devils in Exile', follows the story of an Iraq War veteran who joins forces with fellow veterans to take on the drug trade in Boston. The screenplay for 'Sugar Bandits' is written by Chuck Hogan, known for his work on 'The Town' and 'The Strain'. AGC International and CAA Media Finance are handling the worldwide distribution rights and will be presenting the film to potential buyers at the upcoming EFM. Will Smith, along with Jon Mone, will produce the film through Westbrook Studios. Ryan Shimazaki will oversee the production. AGC Studios is financing the project with Stuart Ford as producer, while Richard Abate will produce for 3 Arts Entertainment. 'Sugar Bandits' marks Will Smith's return to the big screen following his last major feature, 'Emancipation', directed by Antoine Fuqua. Despite selling for a record-breaking $120 million at Cannes, 'Emancipation' failed to make a significant impact upon release. Smith also has the highly anticipated 'I Am Legend' sequel with Michael B Jordan in the works, along with the fourth installment of the 'Bad Boys' franchise. The project for 'Sugar Bandits' was initially announced in 2013 with Universal, but now it's gaining momentum with Smith on board. Smith is represented by CAA, while Hogan is represented by WME and 3 Arts Entertainment. The European Film Market, coinciding with the Berlin Film Festival, will take place from February 15 to 21. The festival is set to kick off with the world premiere of 'Small Things Like These' starring Cillian Murphy.
