New Delhi: A three-member committee set up to review the norms for 10 per cent reservation for economically weaker sections (EWS) in educational institutions and government jobs has prepared its report. The 90-page report will be filed by the committee in the Supreme Court this week. The committee was constituted by the Centre on November 30. The committee consisted of former Finance Secretary Ajay Bhushan Pandey, Indian Council of Social Science Research member Prof VK Malhotra and Chief Economic Advisor Sanjeev Sanyal. According to those involved in the case, the Committee has not recommended any amendment to the criteria for annual income limit of Rs 8 lakh earmarked for economically weaker sections (EWS). The Committee in its review has found that 91 per cent of the students who availed the EWS quota in NEET 2020 had an annual income of less than 5 lakh. The Committee has conducted an in-depth study on the annual income limit of Rs. The Committee has also studied the report of major general SR Sinho Commission on this quota. The committee will now submit its report to the Supreme Court in a sealed envelope soon. The committee was constituted after the intervention of the apex court when the Supreme Court was hearing a petition filed by the government against the quota EWS 10 per cent given in the NEET admission.
