Wrestler Vinesh Phogat tested COVID19 positive before sports awards

Women wrestler Vinesh Phogat, a gold medalist in the Commonwealth and Asian Games, has been infected with COVID-19. Phogat is to be awarded the Khel Ratna Award on the occasion of National Sports Day on Saturday. Just before this, her COVID-19 report has come positive.

Vinesh Phogat was found COVID-19 positive before attending the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award program, India's highest sporting honour. According to the information received, her coach OP Dahiya has also been found infected with COVID-19. His COVID-19 report has turned positive. OP Dahiya has been selected for the Dronacharya Award.

Vinesh while talking to the media said, "My samples were taken in Sonipat for investigation of COVID-19 virus as part of the preparations for the Games Awards, the results have come out positive in the investigation. I am currently in isolation at my house."

Vinesh, 26 years old, will not be a part of the virtual award ceremony on Saturday. The Commonwealth Games gold medal champion women wrestler Vinesh Phogat created a new history by winning the gold medal in the 50 kg category of the 18th Asian Games wrestling competition, giving a tremendous performance. She became the first female wrestler to consistently win a medal. Vinesh has achieved many medals and awards in her career so far.
