New Delhi: Star boxer Kavinder Singh Bisht of India has confirmed his place in the pre-quarterfinals by performing brilliantly at the ongoing World Men's Boxing Championships in Russia. Bisht achieved this feat by defeating China's Chenna Zhihao in a tough fight on Sunday. China's boxer face bled against Asian silver medalist Bisht. The two players could not hit each other hard and the judges ruled 3–2 in favor of Kavinder. The 26-year-old Indian Air Force player traveled to the quarter-finals at the 2017 World Championship in Hamburg in 2017, but this time he is one of the medal contenders. He is ranked fifth. Earlier, second seed and Asian champion Amit Panghal (52 kg) and Commonwealth Games silver medalist winner Manish Kaushik (63 kg) advanced to the pre-quarterfinals with a convincing win. National champion Duryodhan Singh Negi (69 kg) entered the second round by defeating Koryun Astoyan of Armenia 4–1 in the opening match of the World Men's Boxing Championship on Friday. The Indian will face sixth seed Zayed Iyyash of Jordan who got a first round bye in round 32 on Monday.
