A yoga centre was inaugurated in Upper Assam’s Dibrugarh on Sunday. The centre was set up to encourage the practice of yoga among the people of Dibrugarh for living a healthy life. Under the guidance of Dipa Dasgupta, the students of Sudham demonstrated various yoga postures during the inauguration programme. Speaking on the occasion, Pranab Kumar Nath, a yoga expert said, “It’s a noble initiative taken by Dipa Dasgupta to encourage the people to do yoga.” He further said, “Everyone should do yoga to live a healthy life. Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been giving stress on doing yoga on regular basis to stay healthy. Yoga is an ancient practice which can give you a way of healthy life.” The Sports Ministry recently formally recognised yogasana as a competitive sport, which will enable the ancient practice to avail government funding. Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju and Minister of AYUSH (Ayurveda Yoga and Naturopathy Unani Sidda Homoeopathy) Shripad Yesso Naik formally promoted yogasana as a competitive sport during an event here. The move was made to encourage yoga, spread awareness about its benefits and to help improve physical and mental wellbeing of the people.
