Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of Uttar Pradesh has inaugurated the high-speed trial run of the Agra Metro. It was reported that the metro service is set to begin its operations by February 2024. Adding to the excitement, certain media outlets mentioned the renaming of the Jama Masjid metro station to Mankameshwar Mandir Station. Following this announcement, the chief minister held a review meeting with district officials at the circuit house premises. Addressing the gathering, he expressed his pride in announcing the commencement of high-speed trials for the Agra Metro. The entire team has done a commendable job, and he looks forward to the metro services benefitting the people of Agra by February 2024. Sushil Kumar, the MD of Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC), shared his confidence in executing metro projects ahead of schedule. He assured that the world-class metro system in Agra will be delivered on time, adhering to the set timeline. The low-speed trials were already underway at the Agra Metro Depot, and now the high-speed trials will commence on the 3-km-long elevated viaduct comprising three elevated stations, which is part of the 6-km-long priority stretch on the first corridor from Taj East Gate Metro Station to Jama Masjid Metro Station. The Agra Metro Rail Project comprises two corridors with a combined length of 29.4 km. The first corridor spans 13.7 km from Taj East Gate to Sikandra and features six elevated and seven underground stations. The second corridor, stretching 15.7 km, runs from Agra Cantt to Kalindi Vihar, entirely elevated, with 14 metro stations. Uttar Pradesh already boasts metro services in five cities, including Lucknow, Kanpur, Ghaziabad, Noida, and Greater Noida. With Agra becoming the sixth metro city, it opens up numerous employment opportunities, enhances tourism, and elevates the city's standing on the world map, as emphasized by the UP CM.
