Chennai: YouTuber and Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) leader 'Sattai' Duraimurugan was detained by a Cyber Crime Police team on Thursday for allegedly making derogatory remarks against DMK patriarch and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi. Murugan, who operates the YouTube channel 'Sattai', was in Tenkasi to inspect his under-construction house when the police team detained him. He was subsequently brought to the Trichy Cyber Crime Wing for questioning. Sources indicate that Murugan's detention followed a complaint that he had made derogatory remarks about former Chief Minister Karunanidhi during an election campaign ahead of the Vikravandi bypoll conducted on Wednesday. AIADMK leader and former Tamil Nadu minister, D Jayakumar, condemned Murugan's arrest. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he stated, "The arrest of Naam Tamilar Party's Duraimurugan is an act of strangulation of the right of expression. DMK is a movement that has won many awards in spreading defamation." Jayakumar further criticized the DMK government, labeling it "incompetent" and accusing it of targeting Murugan for exposing the government's flaws on his YouTube channel and for criticizing MK Stalin's administration for "looting" the state. He added, "Stalin, who is running a fascist regime, has started writing the conclusion to the end of his regime."
