Zoo in Lucknow may be named after Atal Bihari Vajpayee

LUCKNOW: The Yogi Adityanath government is considering renaming the Lucknow Zoo after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, as part of its ongoing renaming binge.

Dara Singh Chouhan, the Minister of Forests, said the government was reviewing the suggestion and would make a judgment when the time came.

The Akhilesh government changed the Lucknow zoo, which was previously known as Prince of Wales Zoological Garden, to Nawab Wajid Ali Shah Zoological Park in 2015. On Monday, the Zoo celebrated its 100th anniversary. The naming of the zoo after the former Prime Minister is expected to take place on December 25, Vajpayee's birthday, according to officials.

Every year, over 13 lakh people visit the zoo.The zoo, which covers 71 acres, is known as the capital's "life and glory." It was founded in 1921 and houses 911 animals and 102 types of birds.
