New Delhi: A 15-day blood donation campaign started on Saturday (September 17) on the birthday of PM Narendra Modi. On its first day i.e. on PM Modi's birthday, more than 1 lakh people donated blood, which is a 'world record'. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has given information in this regard. Earlier on September 6, 2014, 87,059 participants made a record by participating in blood donation. This program was organized by Akhil Bharatiya Terapanth Yuvak Parishad. For this, 556 blood donation camps were organized in 300 cities of India.

Mandaviya donated blood at a camp located at Safdarjung Hospital. The Health Minister urged people to register themselves on the Arogya Setu app or e-Raktkosh portal to donate blood on the 'Rakt Daan Amrit Mahotsav'. This festival will be celebrated till October 1 – National Voluntary Blood Donation Day. Mandaviya tweeted at 7:42 pm on Saturday evening and wrote, 'Today a new world record was set. I am happy to share that more than 87 thousand people have so far voluntarily donated blood on the occasion of Rakta Daan Amrit Mahotsav on the birthday of PM Modi, which is a new world record. This is a priceless gift from the country to our dear Pradhan Sevak. After this, he told in another tweet that this figure has crossed one lakh.

Officials have said that the counting of those who donated blood on the first day is still going on. An official has informed that so far 6,136 camps have been allowed across the country and 1,95,925 people have registered. He said that so far 87,059 people have donated blood.
