Madrid: Spanish police on Friday announced the arrest of a criminal gang that stole more than one million euros after breaking into the homes of refugees fleeing conflict in Ukraine.

According to a statement by Spain's Guardia Civil police force, the 10 suspects "had specialized in this type of hunting because they usually brought all their savings and valuables."

They are suspected of breaking into seven homes of Ukrainian refugees in the eastern provinces of Alicante and Murcia on Spain's Mediterranean coast, according to the statement.

Trackers placed on the victims' vehicles were allegedly used by the gang to "study their daily routine" and detect when they were not at home.
