United States: US Vice President Joe Biden, 80, had a cancerous skin lesion successfully removed from his chest in February, according to his doctor.
According to a report made public by the White House, Biden's doctor, Kevin O'Connor, identified the lesion as a basal cell carcinoma that "does not 'spread' or lead to metastasis," and that "no and does not require treatment" after the wound was removed during Biden's annual physical on February 16. The president was deemed "fit for duty".
The president will continue dermatologic surveillance as part of his ongoing comprehensive health care, O'Connor reported Friday. The biopsy site has healed well.

According to him, basal cell carcinoma is less dangerous than "more serious skin cancers such as melanoma or squamous cell carcinoma".
O'Connor said in February, "President Biden remains a healthy, vigorous 80-year-old man who is fit to successfully discharge the responsibilities of the presidency, including those of chief executive, head of state and commander in chief." After Biden's physical examination.

In the February appointment, Biden completed tests introduced at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in the suburbs of Washington, which also includes a facility for the president.
When writing about the president at the time, O'Connor noted that he had "spent a good deal of time in the sun in his youth" and had already received regular treatment to remove localized, non-melanoma skin cancer.
