100 injured in blasts at churches in Sri Lanka

In a shocking incident, 100 people are injured due to a bomb blast in 3 churches and 2 hotels. According to the sources, explosions hit 3 churches and two hotels in Sri Lanka on Sunday, injuring at least 100 people as worshippers attended Easter services. The blasts occurred at around 8.45 a.m. (local time) as the Easter Sunday masses were in progress, police spokesman Ruwan Gunasekera said.

Police said the blasts hit churches in the north of the capital and in the town of Negombo, just outside Colombo. The nature of the explosions was not immediately clear. A second explosion was reported at St. Sebastian’s Church in Negombo, a Catholic majority town north of Colombo. Two explosions have hit two churches in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday, causing casualties among worshippers.

"Eighty people have already been admitted, and more are still coming in," an official at the Colombo National Hospital said on condition of anonymity.  It was not immediately clear if the blasts had caused casualties. The churches hit were in the north of the capital, and the town of Negombo, just outside Colombo.

The church has appealed for help on its Facebook page."A bomb attack to our church, please come and help if your family members are there," said the post in English on the Facebook page of the St Sebastian's Church at Katuwapitiya in Negombo. Alex Agileson who was in the vicinity said buildings in the surrounding area shook with the blast. Sri Lankan security officials say they are checking for details.
