Ujjain: Excavations to expand the Baba Mahakal temple at Ujjain in MP have unearthed the structure of the nearly 1,000-year-old Parmar carpet temple. Excavations have also unearthed several important statues of the 11th century. After this excavation, a beautiful temple of Parmar carpet architecture has started appearing. As soon as the Department of Culture came to know about the statue and architectural section of the mother found due to excavation in the next part of the Mahakal temple on May 30, they immediately sent four members of the Archaeological Department, Bhopal, to inspect the Ujjain Mahakal complex.

Dr. Ramesh Yadav, the archaeological officer who was leading the team, had said that the 11th-12th century temple is buried below, which is in the northern part. A wall has been found four meters down the south, which could be about 2,100 years old. In 2020 also, relics about 1,000 years old were found in the Mahakal temple. The rest building is being constructed in front of the temple. The remains were recovered due to excavations carried out for the same. Thereafter, the work was stopped.

At the same time, due to excavation work in the Mahakal temple, one archaeological heritage after another is coming to light. There is a pile of statues here. Archaeological officer Dr. Ramesh Yadav said it is difficult to tell who built the temple that came out in the excavation. It will be studied. All the statues and the structure of the temple will be aligned, only then can a conclusion be reached. Ujjain District Collector Ashish Singh says the pace of work is slow as the archaeological remains have to be preserved.
