Successful surgery of a 106-year-old woman's hip was performed at a private hospital in Delhi. Doctors at Dharmasheela Narayan Hospital said that Shanti Devi, a resident of Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, is said to be the oldest woman in the world who has undergone hip replacement surgery. Shanti Devi suffered a fracture of the hip joint, and so she could not even get up from the bed, which made this surgery necessary. The woman was brought to the hospital on 12 March and underwent surgery on 15 March.
Senior Consultant in Orthopedics Drs. Monu Singh said that 'Shanti Devi, who was suffering from pain, had a fracture in her hip bone. Many bones were broken due to the fracture. If she did not have these surgeries, she would rest in bed forever.' At the same time, if there is no activity from the body at this age, a person cannot stay alive for a long time, so it was very necessary for her to have this surgery. After hip replacement surgery, she is now well and able to walk.
Why there is a need for hip replacement surgery: He said that considering the age of the woman, it was very difficult to do such surgery. We completed this work very fast and with great care. He explained that with aging, the energy of people starts decreasing and by the age of forty, the chain of troubles takes on even more momentum. The slightest injury or fall due to the weakening of bones with increasing age has a very bad effect on the hips. At the same time, conditions are slightly more difficult in women.
