A major incident has taken place in China today. A gas pipe exploded in Xi'an city in China's Hubei province on Sunday morning. At least 11 people lost their lives and 138 others were injured in the massive gas blast. 37 people are said to be seriously injured. This information has been given by the official media. The blast occurred around 6.30 am in Xi'an town of Zhangwan district. According to reports, one market in the district has been the worst affected.

The official channel reported that several buildings were also badly damaged and 11 people lost their lives and 37 others were injured in the blast. Hong Kong newspaper South China Morning Post reported that the blast took place at Yanhu Market in Xi'an where many people were having breakfast or buying vegetables in the market.

According to reports, the municipal office in the city had initially said after the incident that many people were buried under the debris. Photos and video footage circulating on social media platform Weibo showed several houses razed and rescue workers removing large scale debris from the destroyed houses. The cause of the incident is under investigation.
