Cisco has launched its first manufacturing facility in India, located in Chennai, as part of a strategic multi-year investment plan to strengthen production capabilities in the country. The facility is expected to generate over $1.3 billion annually from both exports and domestic production, while also creating 1,200 jobs in Tamil Nadu.

Cisco has partnered with Flex to build and expand the Chennai manufacturing unit, which will initially focus on producing Cisco’s Network Convergence System (NCS) 540 Series routers. The new facility aims to manufacture a range of advanced routing and switching products to meet the growing technology needs of businesses in India and worldwide.

The inauguration was attended by Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Cisco Chair and CEO Chuck Robbins, President of Cisco India and SAARC Daisy Chittilapilly, along with other state and local government officials. This new facility marks a significant milestone in Cisco’s global manufacturing network.

Cisco highlighted the collaboration with Flex in establishing the Chennai site, emphasizing their 25-year partnership in advancing telecom technology and scaling global manufacturing with speed, resilience, and sustainability. The first phase of this investment focuses on the production of NCS 540 Series routers, with plans for significant innovation and technical enhancements in the next phase.

Future developments at the facility will include advanced printed circuit board assembly with multiple layers, products requiring thousands of individual components, and industrial-grade products designed to withstand extreme environmental conditions. This expansion will enable Cisco to broaden its technical manufacturing capabilities and serve a wider range of customers and market segments.
