USA: Tesla's creation of practical electric cars with longer ranges than its competitors and acceleration that put the fastest supercars to shame a few years ago has taken the automotive industry by storm.

There appears to be an attempt to do the same for Senmenti 0 motorcycles from China's Horwin; Despite looking like a lightweight scooter, it has the performance to compete with all but the fastest sports bikes.

The bare numbers include a 0-100km/h (0-62mph) time of just 2.8 seconds. It compares favorably with some of the world's fastest motorcycles and highlights the Senmenti 0's instant power delivery and 600Nm of torque at the rear wheel (442lb-ft).

While a top speed of 200 km/h (124 mph) may not be as impressive, electric cars generally struggle when it comes to flat-out speed, so this is still plenty for street use. Much faster with more space.

A 400-volt electrical system, including a battery in the floor and a big-looking electric motor with direct drive to the rear wheels via silent belts, is responsible for the performance.

To avoid the need for additional wiring between the battery, motor and control electronics, they are all connected in one integrated pack.

Horwin is also claiming impressive numbers for the Smenti 0's 186-mile range (300 km). Plus, because that range is delivered at a constant 55 mph, you don't have to go as slowly to get there.

Horwin claims that if the battery runs out, it can be recharged from 0% to 80% capacity in as little as 30 minutes using a fast charger that is usually reserved for electric cars. The company also promises to sell a spare battery as a range-extender for riders who need more range.

The name Senmenti is meant to sound like the Chinese word for "creature", as Senmenti 0 is equipped with over 30 sensors and cameras in total, helping it monitor its surroundings and position.

Apart from ABS and traction control, it gets tire pressure sensors, collision alert system, keyless entry, video recording dashcam, multiple riding modes, a reverse mode and less exciting features like heated grips and a seat.

Horween is already accepting pre-orders of €100 through its website for customers who want to get an early spot on the waiting list, even though some of the performance and range claims may sound like a concept bike . Production of the Senmenti 0 is scheduled to begin in mid-2023.

Additionally, Horween unveiled the Senmenti X concept bike, which uses essentially the same technology as the Senmenti 0 production bike, but is styled in a futuristic foot-forward fashion and features a hub-center There is a steering system.

There's no word on when the Senmenti X will go into production, despite it claiming the same performance numbers as the Senmenti 0, such as the same range and top speed and a 0-62 mph acceleration time of under 3 seconds.

Don't count on the "X" ever going beyond being a concept model, as its design would need significant changes to be road legal and such foot-forward machines rarely reach showrooms.
