Fire erupts in Russian special operation submarine, 14 Navy personnel killed

MOSCOW: 14 crew members have been killed when a sudden fire broke out in a Russian submarine. The country's Defense Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday that crew members were killed during the crash on Monday due to Carbon Monoxide. The statement said that the submarine was conducting seabed research in Russian waters at the time of the accident.

However, the Ministry of Defence has not given details about what kind of submarine it was. But according to Russian media reports, it was a nuclear mini-submarine used for special operations. However, the submarine was transported to Severomosk after the fire was brought under control, which is the major base of the Russian Northern Fleet. The Russian Defense Ministry has not revealed the total number of members present on the submarine. But according to local media, several crew members were injured in the incident and have been admitted to hospital.

An investigation has been launched into the incident, led by the Navy Commander-in-Chief. Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday expressed condolences to the families of the victims, describing the incident as a great loss to the country's navy. Among the dead were 7 captains and 2 military personnel who were awarded Russia's highest honorary honor emancipation Hero of the Russian Federation Award, President Putin said.
