Ahmedabad: The work of decorating Somnath Temple in Saurashtra, Gujarat with 1400 Gold plated Kalash is in process. The work will be completed by the end of 2021. This work is being done by the Somnath Temple Trust. The trust member PK Lakhari said that about 500 people have cooperated in it.

He said that special arrangements are made to show the brightness of the gold of the Kalash in the night. The temple will look even more beautiful after the Kalash are covered with gold and the lighting arrangements. The Somnath temple in Saurashtra, Gujarat, is considered to be the first of the 12 jyotirlinga of Lord Shiva. According to Rigveda, the Somnath temple was built by Chanddev.

According to historians, the Somnath temple was demolished by Mahmud Gjanavi in the year 1024 AD. From the break of the statue of this temple, all the gold and silver jewellery were looted. Ghaznavi looted the diamonds and the jewels and sailed to his country. After Mahmud Ghaznavi, several Mughal invaders fractured the Somnath temple and looted. It was destroyed 17 times and it was reconstructed every time.
