London: The Metropolitan Police officers arrested 155 people for offending coronavirus regulations and assaulting a police officer. A protest has been held by people for anti-lockdown in central London.
The Police officers said they do make use of early intervention methods to disperse illegal gatherings. It included intercepting coachloads of demonstrators as they came into the capital. The force also warned saying that if they did not turn back and go home were arrested or issued with a fixed penalty notice. Demonstrators were not wearing face masks booed at police and shouted “shame on you” as disorderly scenes unraveled. On which police commander for the event, Chief Superintendent Stuart Bell, said it was a "challenging day" for officers and thanked them for their work. The spread of coronavirus is again at boost for which current rules in place to curb the spread bars the protest from taking place with the Met Police previously warning demonstrators risk being subjected to enforcement action by officers.
A substantial group of demonstrators chanting “freedom” left the park near Marble Arch. They marched along a road parallel to Oxford Street. Police walked alongside the protesters who carried placards reading “stop controlling us” and “no more lockdowns”. Whereas other signs read “ditch the face masks” and “no to mandatory masks”. Demonstrators have held rallies across England since the government introduced the second national lockdown on 5 November.
