Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) is a celebration happening once in evey two years to boost the  engagement of Indian Government with Indian Community settled overseas to connect them back to their roots. This engagement will recognize the contribution that NRI's had made in different fields providing benefits to both in India and Abroad honouring them with prestigious Samman Awards. 

It will be a 3 day event beginning from January 8th to 10th with having a Youth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas on first day leading to Inauguration of 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention on second day and ending with the 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention on the last day. 

This year the convention is happening in Indore in the state heart of India, Madhya Pradesh. Indore the cleansest city will be organising this years convention where global personalities will arrive and live in Indore expericing the vivid culture of here.  

A total of 27 people have been chosen for the convention which are for business- Amit Kailash Chandra Lath of Poland, Piyush Gupta of Singapore,  Siddharth Balachandran of the UAE, Rajesh Subramaniam of the US. For education- Rajagopal of Mexico, Maqsooda Sarfi Shiotani of Japan, Sanjeev Mehta of Bhutan, Jagadish Chennupati of Australia, Dilip Loundo of Brazil, Rajagopal of Mexico and more for different sectors including community welfare, media, science and technology, politics, culture, medicine and further on. 

The theme for this year convention is "Diaspora: Reliable Partners for India's Progress in Amrit Kaal". This event has been created to celebrate the return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa to India on January 9, 1915. This tradition has started from the year 2003, and the format have been revsied in year 2015 and from then its still the same. The awrds will be presented in presence of hon'ble president Droupadi Murmu with having the President of Guyana Mohamed Irfaan Ali who will be the chief guest this year, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugrating this year convention. 

The convention will also have five plenary sessions based on various themes. The first plenary session is 'Role of Diaspora Youth in Innovations and new Technologies', second plenary session is 'Role of Indian Diaspora in promoting Indian Healthcare Eco-system in Amrit Kaal: Vision @2047', third plenary session is 'Leveraging the soft power of India - Goodwill through craft, cuisine & creativity', fourth planery session is 'Enabling global mobility of Indian workforce – Role of Indian Diaspora' and the fifth is 'Harnessing the potential of women diaspora entrepreneurs towards an inclusive approach to nation building' as per the official data.

This will include Cultural programmes, town hall sessions, award ceremony and many more. On the Youth PBD day Australian member of Parliament Zaneta Mascarenhas will be the guest of honour and the first day is of convention is done in partnership with Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.     

There will be a jury-cum-award committee involving the Vice president as the chairman, External Affairs Minister as vice-chair and other delibrate authorities from different backgrounds will consider nominations and unanimously select the awardees, as per the MEA.
