Guwahati: 18 elephants have been killed in lightning in Assam. Out of this, the bodies of 14 elephants were found on the top of a hill while the remaining four have been found in valleys below the hill. In Assam, lightning struck the elephants in the proposed Kundoli forest reserve of Kathiotoli range in Nagaon district on Wednesday night. Due to which these elephants were killed.

Assam Chief Conservator of Forests Amit Sahai has said that the incident took place over a wild hill near Nagaon-Karbi Anglong border. It is a very far and inaccessible area. It took 24 hours for the forest department team to arrive. Preliminary investigation suo-day investigation revealed that the elephants suffered a severe shock due to lightning. This led to his death.

On Friday, May 14, a team of veterinary doctors has gone to the area to post mortem the elephants. Amit Sahai said it is rare to see such a large number of elephants killed simultaneously. Since elephants are always in herds, it may be possible. Whenever there is a storm or it rains heavily, they try to hide somewhere together.
