In a recent incident, an 18-year-old woman has been stabbed multiple times while being on the bus, and the cause of the incident was her race, her being an Asian.

A 56-year-old woman stabbed an 18-year-old Indiana University student on a bus, while the victim was standing and waiting for her stop. The 56-year-old has been identified as Billie Davis, who has targeted the 18-year-old for her race.

According to court documents obtained by WRTV, the woman told police that the 18-year-old student "would be one less person to blow up our country." the woman was stabbed multiple times in the head with a folding knife.

A witness on the bus followed the woman’s attacker in order to give her location to cops and contacted police, who later arrested Billie R. Davis and charged her with attempted murder and aggravated battery, according to court records.  

Bloomington is in southern Indiana. Mayor John Hamilton called behavior like the bus attack “not acceptable” and said it would be “dealt with accordingly”. “We know when a racially motivated incident like this resonates throughout the community, it can leave us feeling less safe”, Hamilton said in a statement on Saturday. “We stand with the Asian community and all who feel threatened by this event”.

The victim is been getting treated in the hospital for multiple stab wounds, her name has not been released yet.

Bus surveillance footage has shown no evidence of interaction between the two women before the attack. The accused was charged with the battery until hospital workers found seven stab wounds on the victim's head, the NY Post report said.

On Thursday, the police re-interviewed the accused who admitted to using a folding knife in the racially-charged attack, and charged her with attempted murder. It's unclear if she will also be charged with a hate crime. The police have cleared that the attack was totally unprovoked and completely intentional.

The victim has confessed to the police that she was standing and waiting for the exit door to open on the bus on Wednesday afternoon when another passenger began striking her in the head.

This incident has taken place in the town of the Bloomington on Wednesday afternoon. Bloomington is in southern Indiana.

“This week, Bloomington was sadly reminded that anti-Asian hate is real and can have painful impacts on individuals and our community,” Indiana University Vice-President of Diversity, Equity, and Multicultural Affairs James Wimbush said in a statement.

“No one should face harassment or violence due to their background, ethnicity, or heritage. Instead, the Bloomington and IU communities are stronger because of the vast diversity of identities and perspectives that make up our campus and community culture.”

In recent years, Asian Americans have increasingly been the target of racially motivated harassment and assaults, especially after the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
