HYDERABAD: With K L Rahul unavailable for ODIs against New Zealand because of personal reasons and Shreyas Iyer out due to back injury, now Ishan Kishan has got an opportunity to showcase his abilities in the middle-order, a fact which he himself knows very well.

"Overall, I believe it's a wonderful chance for me to establish myself in the middle rank. I am aware that the majority of them believe I am competent as an opener, going there and batting aggressively." "I want to establish myself, though, at the same time. Additionally, I can get the team out of difficult situations when I am batting at No. 4 or No. 5, or if we are in a favourable scenario, maybe I can go and play my shots. Overall, it's a terrific opportunity for me "said Kishan during the Star Sports programme "Follow The Blues."

When Kishan last played in an ODI, he opened the batting against Bangladesh at Chattogram in December 2022 and hit a magnificent 210. In India's 3-0 series victory over Sri Lanka, many expected Kishan to start the batting. However, with a reliable Shubman Gill picked as Rohit Sharma's partner, his exclusion caused much consternation.

"It hurts a little to not get a chance here, but I believe that I did score 200, which was significant in the series because it was the final game and we lost the series to Bangladesh. You cannot, however, overlook the contributions Shubman Gill and Rohit bhai have made over the years, either for India or for Shubman personally in the series he has played. He has performed admirably for the group." "Since we are aware of the number of players present and the level of competition, I am unable to just go there and request the position that I want to open. Everyone is contributing to the team's success, so now that I have the chance to bat in the middle order, I'll do my best to play well, take the team out of any sticky situations, and perhaps even help my team win "Regarding not being given a chance against Sri Lanka, Kishan said.
