Guwahati: The opposition party Congress in Assam on Saturday has been strongly criticizing for sending 2 black panthers from Assam State Zoo to a private zoo in Gujarat. Assam is the only breeding center of the Black Panthers in the country, according to Guwahati Zoo officials. The Assam State Zoo-cum-Botanical Garden in Guwahati will be assisted by the Central Zoo Authority (CZA) in the conversion of two black panthers to acquire four zebras from Israel. Greens Zoological Rescue and the Rehabilitation Kingdom approved by CZA in February 2019 are owned by Reliance Industries Limited.

Assam Congress spokesperson Bobbeeta Sharma said, "It seems that even wild animals kept in zoos cannot escape the mustache of big corporate houses, as two black panthers from Guwahati's state zoo recently set up by Reliance Group Are being sent to a zoo in Gujarat."

He said that a year ago there were a lot of uproars when 3 elephants from Assam were sent to a temple complex in Gujarat. Despite this, 2 black panthers from the Assam State Zoo were sent to the Jamnagar Zoo. He said the operation of Jamnagar Zoo is responsible for Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries. In the second week of January, two Black Panthers were secretly sent to Gujarat. Animal lovers and conservationists of Assam were not even informed.
