Patna: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar has condoled the death of four labourers in a fire that broke out in a saree godown in Ashfaq Nagar of Varanasi in UP, the country's largest state. Terming the accident as tragic, Nitish expressed his condolences to the families of the two labourers from Bihar who were killed in it and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to their families.

The CM has directed the Local Commissioner, New Delhi to ensure proper arrangements to bring the mortal remains of the deceased to Bihar by establishing necessary coordination with the UP government. The labourers from Bihar, who were killed in the accident, have been identified as Muntashir and Ejaz, both of whom were residents of Araria district. Four persons, including a father and son, were burnt alive in a fire due to a short circuit in a saree godown at Ashfaq Nagar Colony in Kamchha in Varanasi on Thursday. Even before the fire men arrived, the people of the area brought the fire under control. The Varanasi collector announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each to the victims' families. A forensic team and Bhelupur police who reached the spot conducted an inquiry. UP CM Yogi Adityanath has condoled the accident.  

A resident of Ansar Nagar Colony in Rewari Talab area under Bhelupur police station, Md. Arif Jamal's family works as a polish in sarees etc. A hall on the ground floor of Siraj's two-storey house in Ashfaq Nagar Colony, some distance away from the house, has been rented by Arif and a saree godown has been built in it.
