New Delhi: The second phase of corona vaccination in the country has started from March 1. In this phase, vaccines will be given to people above 60 years of age and those suffering from serious diseases above 45 years of age. Earlier, in the first phase of vaccination, only the healthcare workers and frontline workers were given the dose of corona vaccine.

According to the Census 2011 population estimates of India, the estimated population of people over 60 years of age in India in 2021 is about 137 million. This figure is about 10 percent of the estimated population for 2021, and it has a male population of 9.5 percent and a female population of 10.7 percent. Similarly, the estimated population of the age group of 45 to 59 is 20.7 crore. People of this age can also get a dose of the corona vaccine at this stage if they are suffering from any of the 20 serious illnesses prescribed by the Government of India. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, around 37 people in the age group of 45 to 59 are suffering from one or more serious illnesses.

24 percent of people in the age group of 45 to 59 years suffer from a serious illness and 13 percent suffer from several serious illnesses. In this age group, people living in urban areas (45 percent) have more serious diseases than rural areas (33 percent). At the same time, 52 percent of people over the age of 60 are suffering from a serious illness.
