Tamil Nadu governor Banwarilal Purohit has approved the 20% reservation for Tamil medium candidates in the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission TNPSC examination. The bill has been lying quiet for 8 months and got the Governor's approval. The newly revised law in the assembly which was read by Minister D. Jayakumar, informs that students who studied 10th, 12th and degree entirely in Tamil, medium of Instruction is Tamil will get 20% reservation in the confirmation of Government jobs in Tamilnadu.
With the governor's approval, 20 per cent of the State government jobs will now be filled by candidates who had completed their education in the State language, Tamil. An ordinance was passed by the State Government in giving preference to Tamil medium candidates in appointments through TNPSC. The Tamil Medium Act 2010 came into force during DMK regime, has no advantage prior to the job reservation and now after further amendment, the bill was sent to the Governor for approval. The ruling AIADMK government has taken the Tamil medium education to the next level in their nativeland with its revised version.
English medium candidates need not to worry as both have to write exam and clear it. As per the minister JayKumar's statement, with this amendment the chances of students learning in the Tamil medium will rise in the upcoming days. As per the law, the second-degree holders apply for reservation only if the former PG is also Tamil based, under such condition he/she will be taken into consideration in reservation quota and if not will be sectioned as an English medium.
