Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath on Thursday (5 April 2022) made a big announcement that the property dispute that started with the bifurcation of UP and Uttarakhand has finally been resolved after 21 years. In this, the Alaknanda hotel has been handed over to the Uttarakhand government, while the Bhagirathi hotel has been given to the UP government. Actually, CM Yogi handed over Alaknanda Hotel to CM Pushkar Singh Dhami during a program in Haridwar. Along with this, he also inaugurated Bhagirathi Guest House, constructed by the UP government at a cost of Rs 41 crore in Haridwar.
CM Yogi said that all this is inspired by PM Narendra Modi's vision of 'Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat'. CM Yogi further said that, 'Ganga is born only when Bhagirathi and Alaknanda come together. UP-Uttarakhand may be two separate states, but the public sentiments of the people of both the states are the same. We have resolved the issues politically through dialogue, not leaving it to the bureaucracy. He said that this solution would set an example in resolving disputes between two states in the country. CM Yogi further said that a week after he became the CM in 2017, the Supreme Court had expressed displeasure over the delay in resolving the property dispute between the two states regarding handing over of Alaknanda Hotel to Uttarakhand.
He said, 'I took it on a priority basis, so that such inter-state disputes are not dragged into the courts for years, but are resolved through talks.' On this occasion, CM Yogi also suggested the Uttarakhand government to explore the immense possibilities of eco-tourism and tourism activities in the state, so that employment can be promoted at the local level. The Alaknanda Hotel is situated on the banks of the Ganga canal near Har Ki Pauri. It was prepared by the UP Tourism Corporation in 1964. Even after the formation of a separate state, the UP Irrigation Department has 4,000 residential buildings, 357 non-residential buildings and 13,813 hectares of land in Uttarakhand. During the bifurcation of the state in the year 2000, the Uttar Pradesh government refused to give up the Alaknanda Hotel.
