New York, NY, USA – “My pictures sell bread and men's suits these days,“ jokes Akshat Bagla referring to his work as director of photography for two prominent New York City business enterprises – menswear retailer Differio and cooking academy Bengingi.

The 23 year-old Kolkata native who had graduated with honors from The School of Visual Arts in New York and received enticing job offers prompting him to stay in America, is considered one of the most talented Indian international photographers of his generation.

Taken the industry by storm at the age of 17, Bagla has found a successful balance between creative and commercial. A series of high-profile gigs in quick succession which included restructuring and editing The Rotary Club of Calcutta’s invaluable photo archive chronicling 100 years of history of the prominent institution starting with Gandhi’s appearance, led to Bagla’s quick rise to national recognition.

Being a young visual artist in the aging business easily confused with the insatiable demands of the online world, Bagla found his element through relentless hard work and uncommon creativity. Equally at home streamlining the online presence of industry giants, such as Indus Net Technologies, and creating mouth-watering bread baking picture shows for a boutique New York academy Bengingi, Bagla loves being challenged, as well as challenging his viewers.

“I work with colors when everyone does black and white, and I chose black and white when everyone prefers color,” - he says with polite authority. “Cinematic fashion/food photography and re-branding – my two specialties – call for careful proportion between daring and comforting.”

Bagla’s bread baking pictures for Bengingi or the Gay Pride photo shoots for Differio have been acclaimed by critics as the works of art, yet, they propel both businesses to bigger sales and more followers. Perhaps, the talented Indian artist has found for himself a happy equilibrium – that often elusive answer to every millennial's burning question on how to get (a lot of) food on a table while following one’s passion.
