Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police on Tuesday arrested 26 people, including seven women, in the Gajapati district and seized 21 quintals of ganja (cannabis) worth over Rs 1.5 crore from their possession. According to the information received, cannabis was to be transported out of the state in four mini trucks from Odisha.
Deputy Divisional Police Officer (SDOP), R Udaygiri said, 'Gajapati police have seized 21 quintals of ganja worth more than Rs 1.5 crore in R Udaygiri and arrested 26 people including seven women in this connection.' Police have registered a case under sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 and further investigation into the case are underway.
Just last week, the Special Task Force of Odisha Police seized brown sugar worth Rs 2.40 crore on Monday and arrested three persons in the Balasore district in this connection. An official informed that acting on intelligence inputs, a team of STF arrested three drug traffickers and recovered 2.402 kg of brown sugar during a raid at Jaleswar in Balasore district.
