3 Bollywood movies that showcase the true essence of Mumbai

The name of the city, Mumbai itself gives enough dreams in a person’s mind. It is said that once you start living in Mumbai, you’ll never find a place more suitable. 
Earlier known as Bombay, Mumbai has it all, the house of Bollywood, local train lines and all things shiny ever that attracts the youth towards it like they have been showing in Movies.  A lot of films have been based in Mumbai showcasing lives of every sphere from the city. 
Here is a list of movies that capture the true essence of Mumbai in the films.

1. Bombay
The movie was Released in 1995,  it is based on the real-life story of a couple who had an inter-faith marriage. They run away to Mumbai but the eventual events show that during the riots related to Babri Masjid, they struggled a lot and their survival. 
 Directed by Mani Ratnam with Arvind Swamy and Manisha Koirala in leading roles and boasted of chartbusters like ‘Hamma Hamma’, ‘Kehna Hi Kya’, and ‘Tu Hi Re’, given by none other than A. R. Rahman.
It won national as well as Filmfare awards. 

 

2. city light

‘CityLights, directed by Hansal Mehta, shows the plight of a family that has newly migrated to the ruthless metropolitan city of Mumbai. The story is about a poor farmer with Rajkumar Rao in the lead role, hailing from  Rajasthan coming to Mumbai in search of livelihood.
 The film released in 2014 and won amazing feedbacks from the critics, in spite of releasing in only 350 screens the film became a hit because of it’s slow and steady collection. 

 

3.Life in a Metro
‘Life in a… Metro’ which is directed by Anurag Basu, 
The film had various stars in pivotal roles. An ensemble of  Dharmendra, Nafisa Ali, Shilpa Shetty, Kay Kay Menon, Shiney Ahuja, Irrfan Khan, Konkona Sensharma, Kangana Ranaut, and Sharman Joshi. 
The film basically deals with multiple stories of people from Mumbai and about their lifestyle.
They handle Extramarital affair, love, feelings, loneliness, loss and what not. The film Is said to be a remake of Hollywood movie ‘Apartment’.
