Sanjay Leela Bhansali's much-anticipated series Heeramandi debuted on Netflix, featuring a star-studded cast including Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Manisha Koirala. The series has garnered significant attention, although Bhansali revealed that his initial casting choices differed from the final ensemble. he shared that he originally envisioned Heeramandi as a film starring Rekha, Kareena Kapoor, and Rani Mukerji. However, the scope of the story led to its transformation into a series rather than a film.

Bhansali explained that he had been working on the concept of Heeramandi for 18 years. The series is set in pre-Independence Lahore, exploring the lives of courtesans and nawabs in the district of Heera Mandi. Initially, the casting had undergone several changes over the years, with names such as Mahira Khan, Imran Abbas, and Fawad Khan being considered at different times. Ultimately, the production settled on a new cast that brought Bhansali's vision to life.

This  is a period drama series directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Mitakshara Kumar. The narrative follows the lives of tawaifs (courtesans) within Lahore's Heera Mandi district, set against the backdrop of India's struggle for independence in the 1940s. Alongside the leading actors, the series features Manisha Koirala, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh, and Sharmin Segal in key roles. Fardeen Khan, Taha Shah Badussha, Shekhar Suman, and Adhyayan Suman also portray the roles of nawabs. The trailer, released last month, immerses viewers in a time when courtesans wielded significant influence and commanded respect akin to royalty.
