Pune, a city with a rich military heritage, is set to host the Army Day parade for the first time on January 15, 2025. This historic event was highlighted with the release of a promotional video at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, which received a warm reception from an audience that included film enthusiasts, international delegates, and industry leaders. Bollywood stars like R Madhavan and Rakul Preet Singh featured in the video, expressing their excitement and praising the dedication of India's soldiers while urging citizens to attend this grand occasion.

Army Day, celebrated every year on January 15, commemorates the day in 1949 when Field Marshal KM Cariappa became the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army, taking over from British leadership. For many years, the Army Day parade was exclusively held in Delhi, where it showcased India’s military strength, regimental traditions, and advancements in defense technology. However, in 2023, the parade moved out of the national capital for the first time, with Bengaluru hosting the event. The change marked the beginning of a tradition to bring the Army Day celebrations closer to citizens across India. In 2024, the parade was held in Lucknow, continuing this new initiative.

The 2025 Army Day parade in Pune will be another milestone in this evolving tradition. Pune, known for its significant contribution to India’s defense sector, is home to the Indian Army's Southern Command and prestigious institutions like the National Defence Academy (NDA) and the College of Military Engineering (CME). The parade will take place at the Bombay Engineering Group and Centre and will feature marching contingents, mechanized columns, and technological displays.

Exciting highlights will include demonstrations of modern defense technologies such as drones and robotics, as well as dynamic performances like combat drills and martial arts displays. This year’s parade will further emphasize the connection between the armed forces and citizens across the country.

By rotating the Army Day parade among various cities, the Indian Army is strengthening its bond with the people. This initiative allows local communities to engage directly with the military, fostering a deeper sense of inclusivity and unity. Leading up to the parade, Pune will host the "Know Your Army" exhibition in early January, where residents can explore advanced weaponry and interact with soldiers. These efforts not only make Army Day a ceremonial event but also a national celebration of courage, dedication, and technological progress.
