Three firms are being probed for attempting unauthorized authentication and impersonation by using stored Aadhaar biometrics in what the Unique Identification Authority of India has said is a clear violation of the law.

UIDAI has lodged a criminal complaint with the cyber cell of Delhi "While testing the application, the developer had sent four transactions concurrently which is not allowed. There was no financial loss. It was a test transaction."

The entities under the scanner are Axis Bank, Mumbai-based Suvidhaa Infoserve, and Bengaluru-based eMudhra and they have been served a "notice of action" under Aadhaar regulations.

An UIDAI official said, "The performance of simultaneous multiple successful transactions and exact biometric match score (fingerprints in same direction and angle) in several successive transactions is not possible without the use of 'stored' biometrics."

UIDAI also found that a single device was used by one agency, suggesting that only one person was performing the authentication.
