31 convicted, 117 acquitted in Maruti violence case

A court in Gurgaon on Friday convicted 31 employees of Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL), including 13 on charges of murder, for the violence at the company's Maneser plant in August 2012.

Of the total 148 accused, 117 were exonerated of all charges. 13 of the 31 held culpably were convicted of murder under section 302 of the IPC, while the remaining 18 were charged with rioting.

The verdict comes more than four years after Dev was killed and around 90 executives were injured during violence at the plant on July 18, 2012

The district administration imposed CrPC section 144 near the civil court and Industrial Model Township (IMT) Manesar, prohibiting the gathering of more than five people.

Assembly of more than five people has also been prohibited in the 500 meters radius of MSIL plant and Gurgaon court.
